Its a hatchback. Don’t call it a wagon. I’m sure your review is good enough to attract our attention without the clickbait-y title.

Kinja'd!!!

I just want to commend Hyundai/Kia on this car because my hypothetical three car garage of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is finally complete: N40i, Stinger, and Niro.

It has distinct C and D pillars. It’s a wagon.

Also until I looked it up just now I had no idea that the Kia Niro was a thing that even existed.

The Focus is close but they aren’t really distinct.

From the inside they look almost the same. (the C and D pilar separation)

I don’t think we can still refer to wagons or hatches or SUVs by the old definitions... really its up to the carmaker, what with BMW calling the X6 a SAC: Sport’s Activity Coupe.

Probably.

If Torch can revive the old days of station wagons and longroof cars by calling it a wagon... I guess I’ll let him.

But it’s a hatchback. I love it as it is, but it pretends to be something else.

Four doors and a fifth rear door. *shrug* It meets my arbitrary requirements for wagonhood.

Ha fair enough. Im still struging to figure out what it is. Kia calls it a crossover but not many people are going to look at it that way. They also call the Soul a crossover and nobody I know does but it doesn’t matter because it sells just fine. This thing is odd because it appears to be a hybrid only... and I’m just not sure there is really a market for a tallish hatch/wagon hybrid thing. It does come in what appears to be a very nice blue color so that is cool.

It’s sold like hotcakes here... so does the Audi Q2 for some reason.

I was genuenly concerned when I saw 5 Q2s in Cuernavaca last weekend.
I was there a few hours.

I guess that’s not too surprising. I think you guys have a more established market for smaller cars to begin with. (Which I’ve always thought a little strange because I also see a lot of large trucks running around with plates from the northern states, but that’s a conversation for another time.) Up here I don’t think there is much of a market. I’ve seen maybe one Hyundai Ionioq and one Honda Clarity. Prius is the king of hybrids here and the others get the scraps.

I think that there aren’t many manufacturers with preconceived notions about Mexico, maybe the really old ones like Nissan, Ford, and VW that have been here far longer than everyone else and think they can read the market, but even then they don’t have a rule of thumb like “don’t bring out X feature or Y feature” Only rule of thumb is NO WAGONS... which I hate but anyways....

So companies just throw us whatever they’ve got because the barrier of entry is really low and you don’t have much risk; Mexico is an emerging market meaning that it’s hard to lose money on an investment like cars.

In the US many companies have preconceived notions about the consumer, and they never challenge these notions because the barrier of entry is quite high and the risk is way higher. I think that small cars would have a great following in the US (just look at the Mini) and could turn millennials into buying cars.

But is the risk of getting the A1 or the Polo certified in emissions, safety, and other DOT regulations worth the reward of a few vapers consuming it in some cities? Well... I wouldn’t know.

Crossovers are lifted, more ergonomically friendly wagons.
